Just as Kamala Harris was ready to take the stage, hoping to appease the angry Democrat Arabs of Michigan, Joe Biden stole her limelight. He chose that exact moment to hold his first-ever in-person press conference. It’s not clear if the timing was intentional or simply botched planning. Either way, Harris didn’t make much headway with the pissed-off Palestinians.
Kamala woos Michigan
Nobody in Michigan’s Arab community likes Kamala Harris any more than they liked Joe Biden. She met with “a group of Arab American and Muslim leaders” in Flint, Michigan, on Friday but her visit was overshadowed by “Israel’s recent escalations in Lebanon.”
Whether the residents of Dearborn and surrounding areas like it or not, the administration is forced to support our long-term ally. Michigan supports the Palestinians in Gaza and Lebanon.
Harris is desperate to gather votes but she isn’t getting them. The Palestinian community plans writing in Rashida Tlaib. Kamala had a hard sell to begin with, after “the ongoing Israel-Hamas war that has expanded to a multifront conflict involving Iran, which launched missiles at Israel this week.”
Israel fought back by pounding Lebanon on the ground and sending airstrikes against “Iranian-backed groups in Lebanon and Yemen.”
Emgage Action, described as “an organization aimed at boosting the Muslim American vote,” endorsed Harris last month. They’re a rare exception. They still admit “strong disappointment” with the Biden administration’s stance on Gaza but they’re ready to back Kamala over Trump.
Glaringly absent from Kamala’s guest list “were leaders of the ‘Uncommitted‘ movement, which sprung up during the Democratic primaries this year in opposition to the Biden administration’s policy on the war in Gaza.” They’re the ones who heckled her at the Detroit airport last month.
Won’t endorse Harris
Leaders of the Uncommitted movement “have since announced that their group will not endorse Harris, though they also warned against a vote for Donald Trump or, in states where they might appear on the ballot, third-party candidates.”
Writing in Rashida is also a vote for Trump. The group’s founder, former Capitol Hill staffer Abbas Alawieh, “confirmed Friday that his group was not invited” to the meeting with Kamala.
James Zogby, “a co-founder of the Arab American Institute and a Democratic National Committee member for more than 30 years,” turned down his invite. “He cited growing frustration with what he described as a campaign more concerned with optics than addressing the anger and anxiety among Arab American voters.”
He was still fuming over a zoom call on Wednesday. National security adviser for Kamala Harris, Phil Gordon, billed the meeting as “a virtual gathering with ‘Muslim, Arab, and Palestinian American community leaders‘ to discuss the latest developments in the Middle East.” He lied.
There wasn’t a single leader in the meeting. “There was no ground broken. I wasn’t quite sure what the intent was other than to just say that they met with leaders. There were no leaders.” Kamala has been irking him for a long time.
“With Lebanon in flames, they’ve got a bigger job. And I don’t think they’re ready to handle it.” The Harris campaign is seriously obnoxious. “It’s sort of like trying to sell a car to somebody with terminal cancer. ‘What’re you talking for? I have bigger things on my mind right now.‘” If Kamala can’t get a total ceasefire then she’s a waste of oxygen, they declare.
