Every year or so, I go back to the town that I grew up in for a vacation. It is a small town that is a hotbed of outdoor activity for folks in the Midwest. It was a wonderful place to grow up.

Every time my wife and I make the trip up there, we always have dinner with a friend of mine from high school that I kept in touch with and his family. We usually stay about two days and have a grand old time.

One of the times I was there, my friend asked me to go along with him so he could do a check on an air conditioner he installed in the house he was renting out.

He then proceeded to tell me about what a money pit owning a rental property. The amount of money that some individual landlords make on these things isn’t actually all that much.

This is why it is so strange that governments in liberal municipalities have been trying for the past several years to put a special kind of squeeze on these people who are trying to get by no different than you or I might be.

It all boils down to the fact that there are far too many sanctuary cities.

You know, the liberal cities where if an illegal alien can somehow find themselves the way to the local government doesn’t allow the federal government to come and pick them up.

So these local liberal governments created a problem. They have all these illegal aliens sitting around, they need to put them somewhere. So they fill up the migrant shelters.

Then what does the government do when the shelters fill up? Well, they begin calling all the landlords within the city limits trying to get them to agree to deals that are basically as one-sided as something they can get.

They are trying to get landlords in liberal cities to act as overflow shelters that the government pays them for.

The problem is, that the price that the government pays them is often far below the amount that they could get renting to an honest tenant in a proper housing market.

They’re using illegal aliens to squeeze these people out of a dollar they are trying to make by honest means. That and they are putting all the responsibility on them. If it was a government facility, the government would be taking care of the upkeep of a shelter.

Now that they are trying to pass the buck onto private landlords, it would be on those people to foot the bill for repairs.

It’s just one of those things that makes me think this is part of some extended plan to make all housing owned by the government.
