My first job was at a McDonald’s when I was sixteen. I worked there until the time I joined the military a year after high school.
There were several valuable lessons that I learned from working at McDonald’s.
One of them was to be on time. To this day, in between that and my time in the military I loathe the idea of being late to anything.
Another was the importance of cleanliness. When you are serving food to other people you have to keep where you are preparing the food as spotless as you possibly can.
For all you know, the fact that you kept the assembly area clean might be the difference between life and death for someone.
Now, there are several things that when I worked at McDonald’s that I didn’t exactly have to be told. For one, I knew that I had to salt the fries, that just seemed like kind of a given.
The other one was to wrap the hamburgers up in the little piece of paper. I also didn’t have to be told never to dry the mops using the warming light from the french fry machine.
Oh, I’m sorry. I know that what you read just now might seem like a thing that someone working in a restaurant would not have to be told.
See, not everyone is like you and I. Some people literally have to be told things they shouldn’t do because they simply do not have common sense.
Recently, this was on full display at a McDonald’s location in Australia where an employee was tasked with cleaning some mops that had been used.
Well, when this person was done instead of hanging the mop up and letting it drip dry or something, they instead tried to fast track the drying process by holding the mop head over the heat lamp that keeps the fries warm.

A customer caught this on video while waiting for their hopefully canceled order. The worst part about it is that by the uniform the person was wearing is that this was a manager.
You know, the people that are supposed to set the standards. I can see now more and more each day why so many people are against giving raises to fast food employees.
