Former State Senator Joe Bowen Dead at 71
A former aide of Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has passed away.
Joe Bowen died of a heart attack this week.
Bowen was 71 years old.
Businessman to Politician
Bowen transitioned from business to politics in 2004.
He won his election for the General Assembly’s House, but only served one term.
In 2010, Bowen won a seat in state Senate for Kentucky, where he served until his retirement in 2018.
The Republican Party of Kentucky stated, “While in the General Assembly, Senator Bowen brought a businessman’s eye to government and labored to make it more efficient.
“The RPK prays for his loved ones, especially his wife, Vicki, and the entire Bowen family. May he rest in peace.”
Senator Paul also expressed his condolences…
Kelley and I mourn the loss of our good friend State Senator Joe Bowen. He was heroic defender of the taxpayer, a conservative, and really just an all-around great guy. RIP.

His career was not without controversy, however.
Bowen was named in an illegal campaign funneling scheme.
Trump later pardoned him at the behest of Senator Paul.
