Come 2025, Congress will finally be free of Senator Dianne Feinstein.
After having served for more than three decades in the same seat, Feinstein has decided not to run for reelection.
The announcement came earlier today.
Time to Go
On Tuesday, Feinstein stated, “I am announcing today I will not run for reelection in 2024 but intend to accomplish as much for California as I can through the end of next year when my term ends.”
Her seat is going to draw a big crowd.
In fact, there are already three names in the ring, including Rep. Adam Schiff (R-CA).
Schiff has already gotten the endorsement of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), but I do not expect to see a big flow of endorsements come his way.
Governor Newsom hinted previously that he wants a black woman in that seat, so I would honestly be surprised if Schiff manages to win this election, even though he will be the most recognizable name in the race.
Feinstein first entered the Senate in 1992 and she has not budged since.
Feinstein has become very forgetful as of late, so this is clearly the right move.
She is clearly not mentally sharp enough to remain in office, and this is probably a retirement that should have happened six years ago.
