One of the most famous mean whose name you may not recognize has passed away.
Dallas Frazier, the man behind several legendary country singers, has passed away.
Frazier was 82 years old.
The Legend
If I asked you who sang “Elvira,” it would you about five seconds to say the Oak Ridge Boys.
If I asked you who wrote the song, I might never get an answer.
How about “(I’m So) Afraid of Losing You Again,” “I Can’t Believe That You’ve Stopped Loving Me,” and “Then Who Am I,” what you would say?
They were all either written or co-written by Frazier.
The Oak Ridge Boys, Connie Smith, Charlie Pride, among others, all owe a lot of their success to Frazier.
Kyle Young, CEO of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, stated, “Dallas Frazier is among the greatest country songwriters of all time.”
He continued, “He could convey infectious fun with ‘Elvira,’ and then write something as stunningly sad and true as ‘Beneath Still Waters.’
“His songs helped Connie Smith to become a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
“He was a man of kindness, generosity, and faith, who overcame a hardscrabble upbringing to offer smiling gifts to all of us.
“He lived a beautiful life of a beautiful mind.”
The country music world lost a good one… rest in peace, Dallas.
