Donald Trump may have shown his hand too quickly.
After the raid at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s attorneys stated that privileged documents may have been taken.
As such, they wanted an independent review.
This week, Trump’s team filed an order for an independent review, which is now likely to get shot down due to a move the DOJ made.
The Taint Team
According to the DOJ, its “taint” or filtering team has been scouring over the documents since the raid occurred.
The DOJ says this is usual protocol to ensure all documents forwarded up the chain were suspect to the search.
On Monday, the Trump team had filed a motion that stated, “For the foregoing reasons, President Donald J. Trump respectfully requests that this Court issue an order that: appoints a Special Master; enjoins further review of seized materials by the Government until a Special Master is appointed; requires the Government to provide a more detailed Receipt for Property; and requires the Government to return any item seized that was not within the scope of the Search Warrant.”
Now the DOJ can claim that process has already been in play.
It will also say that even though Trump is a former president, no special privileges should be given, as this is their normal document vetting procedure.
The problem for Trump is that the DOJ is not trustworthy and who knows what they will do with privileged documents.
You better believe Garland had his goons scouring over them for something, anything they can use against Trump.
