Donald Trump’s would-be assassin was definitely not a pro. More than 24 hours after Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire in Butler, Pennsylvania, we still know practically nothing about him. Nothing which sheds much light on Saturday’s major security failure. There’s a bunch of breadcrumbs laying around, helter-skelter. Ones which have the scent of Deep State federal instigation. The problem is that they don’t line up in any particular direction. Adding to the confusion, clues one would expect to find are just as surprisingly absent.

Amateur assassin from suburbia

It would have been really helpful if authorities had captured amateur assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks for interrogation. Both local law enforcement and Secret Service had the chance to shoot the 20-year-old White suburbanite before he shot at once and future President Trump. They didn’t.

Nobody has any good explanations for that. We can’t ask him why he did it, or more importantly, who talked him into it. Not now.

Crooks wasn’t home schooled. The wannabe assassin graduated from predominantly White, middle-class, Bethel Park High School. He was, however, “home counseled.” Both parents are “licensed counselors.” Dad even worked “at a local behavioral health provider.” He also bought the AR-15. He’s talking to the FBI but nobody else.

Right-wing observers wonder if Thomas had been talking to the FBI also. If he was, he probably didn’t know it, thinking it was some friendly co-conspirator. His social media profiles should shed some light on that. He didn’t have any. He had an Instagram account but never really used it. Where one would expect hours of online chat logs, there’s nothing.

In the days leading up to the fatal shooting, the same assassin who killed an innocent retired fire chief and critically injured two others, besides shooting Donald Trump in the ear, cheerfully helped a co-worker at the retirement home.

They chatted casually while opening ranch dressing packets for elderly patients. Nobody in his place of employment saw a single sign pointing to what he ended up doing.

Both parents are licensed counselors.

Just an ordinary guy

The media has been going crazy tracking down Crooks’ high school classmates. They say he was the shy, quiet “geek” type. Interested in coding and chess but not much else. Two months ago, he got an associates in engineering from Community College of Allegheny County. What nobody is mentioning is how someone from an affluent suburb of Pittsburgh would know the critical details about the venue layout where Trump was to hold his rally.

The farm town of Butler is a solid hour’s drive from Pittsburgh, each way. It’s clear the assassin went directly to his chosen sniper post without hesitation. One which had conveniently been left available to him by so called security professionals with the Secret Service. They didn’t do a very good job of guarding Trump’s body when they allowed an amateur to get within optimal range to shoot him in the ear. Everyone on the team hesitated just long enough to let Crooks squeeze off five or six rounds.

Some say that proves God wants Trump to be president. The FBI has already declared it “a possible case of domestic terrorism.” They’re thrilled that Crooks also had a couple “rude” explosive devices in his car and another at home. It’s not clear if mom and dad knew about those.

He had no history of mental health issues. At least, no record of any such history. Mom and dad probably didn’t keep records. The assassin hadn’t been in trouble with the law before over anything.

The FBI has his cell phone but are reporting “problems” getting into it, even with a warrant. The assassin had registered Republican and donated to Democrats. Mom is a Democrat and dad a Libertarian. According to the FBI’s lead investigator at the Pittsburgh field office, Kevin Rojek, “Mr. Crooks is believed to have acted alone.” They assure the public “there were no additional public safety concerns.

Crooks was no stranger to firearms and belonged to The Clairton Sportsmen’s Club. In high school, he wasn’t a good enough shot to qualify for the rifle club. That didn’t stop him from trying. If trump hadn’t turned his head a fraction of an inch, we would be left without a Republican candidate. That’s pretty much the only way Democrats can win at this point, which is another suspicious factor. Stay tuned. We’ll keep diving down this rabbit hole as far as it goes.
