Once and Future President Donald Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt on Saturday, July 13. The incident happened while he was holding a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, ahead of the upcoming Republican National Convention. This is a breaking story so details haven’t been confirmed.
Trump shot but just fine
The campaign rushed out a statement to assure everyone that Donald Trump is “fine” after being shot in the ear. He was taken to a local medical facility for treatment and authorities will update everyone as soon as possible.
The Republican nominee “thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act.”
Not much is known yet but that’s going to change rapidly. “About five minutes into his campaign speech at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, loud bangs rang out.” The crowd “yelled ‘duck‘ as the apparent shots rang out.”

Secret Service “swarmed the former president for several seconds before he was rushed off stage with visible blood near his ear and on the side of his face.” Trump defiantly “pumped his fist in the air as he was escorted down the stairs of the stage and toward an SUV.”
According to Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi, “the president is safe and the incident is now an active Secret Service investigation.” One report notes that as he spoke with his bodyguards, Trump appeared to “mouth the word ‘fight‘ multiple times with his fist in the air.”
Several of the images depict the way his “white shirt was partially unbuttoned” as he was escorted off the stage. There were no other injuries.
Multiple shots reported
Witnesses are reporting multiple shots. “Jason” heard “five shots in quick succession.” He “saw President Trump go to the ground and everyone started dropping to the ground because it was chaos.” Another attendee, Greg, “noticed the guy crawling up the roof of the building beside us, 50 feet away from us. He had a rifle, we could clearly see him with a rifle.” Greg “pointed the man out to police.”
He has some questions. “Next thing you know, I’m thinking to myself why is Trump still speaking? Why have they not pulled him off the stage? I’m standing there pointing at him… the next thing you know, five shots ring out.”
Social media reports note that the suspected shooter is dead. That means we won’t be learning much from his interrogation.

WFLA is reporting the shooter and at least one Trump rally attendee are dead. That’s been confirmed by a local prosecutor.
Other reports list another person as injured but it’s not clear how critically.
The secret service is officially investigating this as an attempted assassination of Donald Trump and the crime scene’s being worked over thoroughly. Stay tuned for more details as they develop.
