When a cop does something this disgusting, it’s easy to see why residents of metropolitan Baltimore don’t trust the police. Having sex in your squad car is bad enough when the other person is an adult. Doing it with high school aged teen girls is even worse. Even though he’s 38, his victims were “old enough.” Under Maryland law, the age of consent is 16. former Sergeant Jason Dyott didn’t get away with it clean but he didn’t get a real harsh sentence for what he did, either.
Another bad cop
Another bad cop is off the force. Judge C. Carey Deeley, Jr. sentenced Sergeant Jason Dyott, formerly of the Easton Police Department, to “four years’ incarceration.” That would be about right to fit the crime.
Then, the lenient judge turned around and waived all but six months of the prison sentence. If he survives life on the inside long enough to make it back out, which is an iffy proposition, “he will also be under supervised probation for three years.”
After 16 years on the force for Easton, Maryland, Dyott should have known the difference between right and wrong. Even if what the cop did rides the razor’s edge of actual legality. As a public servant, he’s held to a higher standard. Expected to set the example an an upstanding citizen.
Officers of the law sexting with barely legal girls they’ve been stalking used to be considered a heinous act. Apparently, to the court in Maryland, it’s really no big deal.
In September, Dyott was convicted on two misdemeanor counts. They were entirely related to his job, not his his crimes. The cop was found guilty of “misconduct in office.”
The two counts were each related to a separate incident he was busted for that “took place in 2022, according to court documents.” The first one was a bigger deal.
A pervert predator
“In the first, Dyott had sex with a recent high school graduate that he picked up from her friend’s house.” He had been grooming her, using his job as a cop to get close. That makes him a predator.
“Two days later, he kissed a 16-year-old high school student in a Target parking lot.” Both of the incidents “occurred in Dyott’s police cruiser.” Having sex in a squad car is a misdemeanor in Maryland. Both girls were “barely legal” there.
The prosecution tried to have the book thrown at him. The liberal ones in Democrat run Baltimore rarely prosecute anyone for actual crimes. Shoplifting, armed robbery and gang murder all get a free pass, along with arson and looting, which have been decriminalized.
Since Dyott is a cop, the prosecutors wanted him burned at the stake. They argued that “Dyott frequently used his department-issued cellphone to arrange sexual encounters and send explicit Snapchat messages to teens and students at local high schools in Talbot County.”
When local parents heard that, the mayor’s phone started ringing off the hook. Through proper channels, they tipped the cop off that he was under the microscope. “After learning that he was under investigation, Dyott conducted internet searches on his phone for phrases like ‘legal consent age in md,’ ‘Maryland Child Pornography Penalties’ and ‘Teen sexting Laws in MD.’” Breathing a heavy sigh of relief, those searches all came out favorable to him. Barely.
The only reason Dyott got any time at all is because conservative backlash brought changes. “New sentencing guidelines aimed at imposing harsher penalties for police misconduct went into effect on the same day as Dyott’s hearing.” They wanted prison, they got prison. Six months of it. The rest of his four year sentence was suspended. Once the other inmates hear what he’s in for, they’re sure to do their best to make it a life sentence. Odds for the kinky cop in Vegas aren’t in his favor.
