There is currently a Philadelphia Police Officer serving a 30-day suspension.
He is serving that suspension because he put someone down that was firing on his fellow police officers.
News broke this week that the officer is now going to be fired.
But He…
According to police reports, two boys were seen riding bikes by an undercover unit.
One of the boys was wanted for questioning.
When the officers (who, although they were in plainclothes, were wearing tactical vests and had badges around their necks) identified themselves, a 12-year-old boy opened fire on them.
The bullet went through the vehicle window and was embedded in the headrest of one of the seats.
Officers emerged from the vehicle and returned fire, with the 12-year-old boy being hit.
He immediately collapsed and was taken to a local hospital by the officers, but he was pronounced dead later.
His accomplice was taken into custody and later released.
The boy’s family attorney stated, “This unseemly speculation about his guilt – from Philly PD, in particular – is just the latest example of their own interest in covering their tracks, rather than atoning for this unforgivable act of malice and murder.”
Unseemly? The boy fired at the officers, initiating the confrontation, but the officer who defended his fellow officers will now be terminated at the completion of his current suspension for violating the use of deadly force rules by the department.
Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) Commissioner Danielle Outlaw stated, “It’s tragic, the circumstances that even led our young people out there in the first place.
“And it’s tragic that we had one of our own, again, go against everything who we say we are.
“It’s just a sickening situation all around.
“I’ve lost sleep over this, and it’s because of the tragedy on all sides. There are no winners here.”
PPD Sergeant Eric Gripp responded, “This kid fires a shot right into the rear passenger’s side window.
“We’re really lucky we don’t have an officer seriously injured and killed right now because the bullet went right through that window and embedded itself into the driver’s side headrest.”
I honestly do not know what they expect from officers in this type of situation.
It is no wonder police departments in liberal-run cities are unable to keep their forces staffed and morale in good order.
