Officers with the Phoenix Police went above and beyond the call of duty recently, to make the lives of local citizens just a little easier. It all started with a traffic encounter. The DoorDash driver they pulled over was on the job at the time, and also had an outstanding warrant. Instantly realizing there was no need to make the customers suffer a huge delay in their order delivery, they dropped it off themselves.
Police deliver justice
It’s always nice to report when police officers do good things for their community. We’re always quick to rip them a new one when they make a mistake, so it’s important to give our boys in blue a pat on the back when they get caught doing things right.
This minor episode for the Phoenix PD caught the attention of the New York Post, who chuckled “Justice wasn’t served; it was hand-delivered.”
Generally speaking, the police in Phoenix, Arizona, are respected by the community for consistently tempering justice with mercy as far as circumstances allow. With rare exceptions, they treat everyone with friendliness and respect. Unless you try to get cute. Then, they’ll do what it takes.

The law required them to detain the delivery driver. They didn’t need to impound the order, so, on May 30, they set it free. With style.
The DoorDash driver with an outstanding criminal warrant explained to police that according to their guidelines, if the cops would be nice enough to return the groceries to Fry’s supermarket, another driver could be dispatched to complete the order.
Meanwhile, Waden Khan and his roommate were glued to the tracking app and frustrated that the little blip on the screen hadn’t moved in an hour. While the tracking dot didn’t move, their order did.

Two cop cars pull up
Just when the expectant customers were ready to give up on the load of groceries and contact the store for guidance, they saw through the window that two police cars were pulling up directly in front of their home.
They didn’t think they had done anything wrong but those cops were definitely about to knock on their door. The way Mr. Khan tells it, “I look out of the window. Two cop cars pull up. Three cops come dashing out, and I was like ‘Oh my God! What’s happening?‘”
Officer Eric Dillard could have done as suggested and dropped the order back at the store. A quick glance at the contents gave him reassurance that he probably wouldn’t be surprising a nest of armed gang bangers by delivering it personally, so he decided to get the food out of the heat and into the right hands.

If it was nothing but liquor and smokes, he would have called for even more police backup and gone in expecting an armed response.
Video of the surprise delivery went viral on TikTok and has been viewed well over 2 million times. The Phoenix police officer decided “why not keep both parties happy. Keep the citizens happy. Keep the driver happy,” Dillard relates afterward.
“It was just very joyful moment. To see the good side. I really wanted to hug the cops, honestly, for doing that,” Mr. Kahn declares. Officer Dillard notes, “he didn’t mind going the extra mile to finish out the order, seeing it is his job to keep his community safe and happy.“
