Melania Trump is a firm believer that women should have the right to choose an abortion. No matter how much the media keeps trying to twist it, Donald Trump holds a similar position. He’s certainly not in favor of a nationwide ban. He’s on record time and again insisting individual states need to craft a solution which works for their residents and Uncle Sam needs to stay out of it.
Melania goes public
One of the topics Melania Trump addresses in her new memoir is the controversy of abortion. Anyone who thinks about the subject honestly has to admit that the procedure results in the murder of a baby.
The question is whether a mother should have the legal right to commit that murder. A vast majority of Americans say yes, though a significant number object vehemently on religious and ethical grounds.
Conservatives and religious fundamentalists would much prefer to find another solution but even they’re forced to admit that sometimes the circumstances indicate terminating the pregnancy is the best option. The focus then shifts to when is it done and how can it be made safe for the mother.
Obviously, sooner is much better than later. Even the experts disagree on where to draw the line. Which is exactly why Donald and Melania Trump believe each state should work that out individually.
Not quite neutral but not excessively liberal either, The Hill claims that “Melania Trump’s decision to come out as a staunch supporter of reproductive rights could have the effect of softening her husband’s image on abortion, something the former president sought to do as the issue has emerged as a potential game changer in the presidential race.”
He’s not trying to “soften” his image as much as explain he’s being misquoted on purpose.
Their own convictions
To Mrs. Trump, it’s “imperative to guarantee” that “women have the autonomy to decide their preference on having children based on their own convictions.” Nobody but the mother and father know for sure exactly how she got in that position. It’s not always an issue of making poor choices.
Melania recognizes that bringing an infant into an impoverished and dysfunctional home could result in worse harm to the child in the long run than murdering it before it’s even born. Incest cases could result in tragic birth defects. Rape and other abuse present similarly significant concerns.
Another point to consider is that abortions will continue whether they are legal or not. All through human history, women have been making confidential visits to the local herb experts for a little something to keep an indiscretion from ruining the lives of those involved.
Once wire coat hangers were invented, women gained another option. One that kills as many mothers as babies. Outlawing abortion entirely will bring them back into style. Melania also touched on the subject in a video promoting her book.
“There is no room for compromise when it comes to” individual freedom, she declares. “What does ‘my body, my choice‘ really mean?” That right there is a sticky philosophical question. Especially because the baby has their own body. Moral and ethical concerns aside, the human race has generally decided to answer that question by giving the mother full responsibility for the body of the baby. That’s reasonable since they will be stuck with the job for another 18 years or so.
Donald Trump agrees with Melania. “I said ‘you have to stick with your heart.‘ I’ve said that to everybody, you have to go with your heart,” Trump said. “There are some people that are very, very far right on the issue, meaning without exceptions, and then there are other people that view it a little bit differently than that.” He’d rather stay out of it but doesn’t get that option.
