Well, the idea that Donald Trump has lost his grip on conservative voters was just put to bed.
Additionally, it is now quite clear that Ron DeSantis is the clear second choice.
Trump dominated the straw poll taken at the CPAC convention this weekend, landing 59 percent of the ballots.
His to Lose
The support for Trump is now quite as strong as it had been in the past, but he was clearly the favorite among attendees.
In July’s CPAC meeting in Dallas, Trump landed 70 percent of the vote.
So, the 59 percent he had here was a significant drop, but he is still the overwhelming favorite.
We also have to keep in mind that this poll was taken in Florida, so we would expect DeSantis to have a better showing than in Dallas.
If we go back to the last Orlando CPAC poll, Trump actually increased his support by four percent.
Trump spokesman Taylor Budowich stated that Trump “continues to grow the conservative MAGA movement, which includes growing his political dominance.”
After Trump and DeSantis, nobody came close to hitting double digits, so this is clearly Trump’s nomination to lose.
If he decides not to run, DeSantis would be the clear selection.
