President Donald Trump said he would be willing to grant preemptive pardons to people who worked with him if Democrats win control of Congress and move against them, according to an interview with New York Post columnist Miranda Devine on her “Pod Force One” podcast, released Monday, one day before the midterm elections.

“I would if I needed to, sure. I would,” Trump told Devine when asked about preemptive pardons. “I’d do it. I did it for J6.”

Trump played down talk of action against Elon Musk and his companies. “It won’t happen. It’s talk. But if it is talk, we’ll have to protect them, won’t we?” he said.

Asked about former Department of Government Efficiency staffer Edward Coristine, he answered, “We’ll have to see.”

Trump cited former President Joe Biden, who on Jan. 20, 2025, issued preemptive pardons to Dr. Anthony Fauci, Gen. Mark Milley, members of the House Jan. 6 committee and five of his relatives.

The remarks describe what Trump says he would do if Democrats take specific steps.

He did not announce any pardons. The White House referred the Daily Caller News Foundation to the president’s comments in the interview.
