His comments followed a claim by ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith on “First Take” that Dolan had an “attitude with players because they don’t wanna go to the White House.”
Days after the Knicks won their first title in 53 years, Dolan said on WFAN radio that he had already accepted an invitation on the team’s behalf, adding, “We still have to figure out the details.” Dolan had personally invited President Donald Trump to Game 3 of the Finals at Madison Square Garden, the only game the San Antonio Spurs won in the series.
Players and coaches have said otherwise. Jalen Brunson told Variety the team had not discussed a visit, and coach Mike Brown said in September the team was still “discussing internally.”
No NBA team has visited the White House while Trump has been in office, according to Complex.
The sad reality is that there are surely team members and staffers that would love to have this experience, but they will all fold the pressure from people like Spike Lee, who is showing his selfishness by merely making this suggestion.
