Fox News said two White House officials confirmed the pick before Trump announced it publicly. In his announcement, Trump called her a “devoted fan and member of MAGA” and said she had worked on his campaigns in key swing states.
Leavitt had already left the job before Friday’s announcement, and Fox News says she has since joined the network as a contributor. Trump praised her work as press secretary in the same statement.
Zacharia responded in a post on X, thanking Trump and saying she looked forward to working with the White House press corps and with reporters around the country.
She previously served briefly as a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson. According to Trump’s statement, she holds undergraduate and law degrees from Pepperdine University.
The briefing room has been quiet in the interim. Fox News counted only two formal White House briefings since Leavitt’s departure, one led by Vice President JD Vance and one by Attorney General Todd Blanche.
