The general rule of thumb by the DOJ is not to make any big legal moves before the election to impact it unless absolutely necessary.
The Mar-a-Lago raid was just outside the accepted window.
Rumors now are that prosecutors are chomping at the bit, waiting to drop the hammer on Trump.
It’s Coming
Republicans now believe that Merrick Garland will drop an indictment on Trump very soon after the elections are over.
They know that it will be tough to go after him once the GOP takes over.
Additionally, if they wait too long, Trump could declare, so any prosecution of him will look like a political attack.
That gives Garland a very narrow window to drop the indictment.
The GOP has to figure out what it will do if and when that indictment occurs.
One GOP aide stated, “A couple of weeks after the election, I assume Garland will indict Trump.”
If that happens, what do they do in terms of Trump announcing?
With Trump losing some support among the ranks, there is also the school of thought that this could re-energize Trump’s following.
The aide stated, “People have been talking about splintering support and dampening enthusiasm among Republican voters for him.
“An indictment could actually galvanize and reunify Republicans around him.”
Based on how people reacted to the raid, he is probably not wrong.
