If finally happened.
Senator Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona has announced that she will be leaving the Democrat Party.
She will be registering as an independent.
Bad News for Dems
In announcing the move, Sinema stated, “I’ve registered as an Arizona independent.
“I know some people might be a little bit surprised by this, but actually, I think it makes a lot of sense.
“I’ve never fit neatly into any party box.
“I’ve never really tried.
“I don’t want to.
“Removing myself from the partisan structure – not only is it true to who I am and how I operate, I also think it’ll provide a place of belonging for many folks across the state and the country, who also are tired of the partisanship.”
Politics aside, I think it is a great move for Sinema as she truly is a middle-of-the-road politician.
She clearly has problems with the Democrat agenda and she is definitely not on board with the full conservative agenda.
I would suspect that she will continue to caucus with Democrats, so the 51-49 edge that Schumer has in the Senate will not be impacted.
The optics of this are what I am more interested in.
The Democrat Party made it clear to Sinema that she needed to follow the party line rather than represent her constituents, and she just was not having it any longer.
