The longest-tenured Attorney General in North Dakota has passed away.
Wayne Stenehjem died last week at the age of 68.
His cause of death has yet to be released, but it is suspected that it was related to ulcer problems he had been experiencing.
Sad Day
Stenehjem had no known health problems other than his ulcer.
Family members stated that he had been taken to the hospital due to an inflamed ulcer.
He passed away later that day.
His family made it clear that his death was not related to COVID.
Stenehjem was very popular both in his home state of North Dakota and throughout the Republican Party.
His career got started in the state House, where he served for decades.
He ran and won for Attorney General in 2000 and has remained there since.
Stenehjem has held the office longer than any other attorney general in the state’s history.
Upon his passing, Governor Burgum, who defeated Stenehjem when he ran for governor, offered his condolences…
Like so many North Dakotans who treasured his friendship and admired him for his more than four decades of exceptional service to our state, Kathryn and I are absolutely devastated by the passing of Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem. pic.twitter.com/MKrGNnTHar

Tonight, my friend Wayne passed on. I am devastated. My heart hurts for Beth, Andrew, and the entire Stenehjem family. Wayne loved North Dakota as much as anyone I have ever met. He was smart, compassionate, and had the most down-to-earth approach to public service. pic.twitter.com/Wp7Atyj5ms
