While Governor Andrew Cuomo got all the attention regarding nursing home deaths during the height of COVID, there were several other Democrats who were also cooking the books.
Michigan Democrat Governor Whitmer was among them.
A recent report offered a blistering review of just how much she was cooking the books, making Cuomo seem like an amateur.
Way Off
The deaths in Michigan nursing homes were drastically undercounted during the early days of the pandemic.
Cuomo set the standard on this, discounting nursing home patients that died in the hospital after being taken out of the nursing home.
Michigan had a similar problem, undercounting its nursing home deaths by about 40 percent.
The Department of Health and Human Services reported a total of 5,675 nursing home deaths through July 2021 related to COVID.
However, a Daily Caller report found an additional 2,386 deaths that were identified by the Office of the Auditor-General.
State Rep. Steven Johnson called the findings “very troubling.”
He stated, “Instead of taking accountability for their actions, [the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services] is making a lot of excuses, they’re trying to shift blame away from themselves, they’re really just trying anything they can except take accountability for their own actions, and that’s really sad to see here.
“It’s a shameful act that occurred, and they’re doubling down on it instead of just owning up to their mistakes.”
Like Cuomo, Whitmer had ordered these facilities to accept patients regardless of whether they were COVID positive or not.
This policy, which had been enacted in a handful of Democrats states, is widely believed to be responsible for the massive outbreaks of COVID we found in elderly care facilities around the country.
The only question is whether these governors will be held responsible for their actions.
So far, the answer to that has been a resounding “no.”
