A Democrat fixture in the Senate took a nasty tumble on Wednesday night.
Senator Leahy (D-VT), who has been serving in the Senate since 1975, fell down and broke his hip.
His office stated that surgery on his hip was scheduled for early Thursday.
Broken Hip
Leahy, at 82, is very susceptible to injury for numerous reasons.
First, he is blind in one eye, which hurts his perception.
Second, he is 82, so those old bones cannot stand up to a nasty fall.
His office announced the injury, stating, “Having been born blind in one eye, the senator has had a lifelong struggle with reduced depth perception.
“He has taken some remarkable dingers over the years but this one finally caught up with him.”
Leahy has already announced that he will not seek re-election at the end of this term.
With this injury, honestly, it would be a surprise to see him return to DC before it is time for him to give up his seat.
