Nobody said faith and firearms don’t mix. Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition, my great-grandmother loved to exclaim, whenever relevant. Modern churchgoers “are now arming themselves and signing up for ‘warrior training‘ before heading into weekly services, as violent attacks in houses of worship surge nationwide.

Faith under fire

The more fundamental and family oriented your faith is, the more the FBI wants to infiltrate your Sunday services. Catholics extreme enough to pray the rosary found themselves on a terror watchlist a while back.

On top of that, every liberal wingnut with an ax to grind sharpens it up and brings it to church. There, they try to create the maximum of mayhem simply to prove whatever point their mind is obsessed with.

Sheepdog Church Security is only one in a growing number of security training providers. Since 2014, founder Kris Moloney has been “training volunteer safety and security teams to protect houses of worship.

They do it all while “keeping faith at the center.” Christians don’t seem to mind learning a little Zen. Become one with the bullseye, they focus.

He was all alone in the industry when he got started but he’s got lots of competition now. A decade later, “church attacks are at an all time high and the protection industry is booming.” Have faith in the Lord, aim low and squeeze the trigger slowly.

Good Christians have no problem at all reconciling the concept of “thou shalt not kill” with the idea that gun control means hitting what you aim at. Vengeance may be the Lord’s but when it comes to self-defense the police can’t be everywhere. God helps those who help themselves, by steadying their aim.

God helps those who help themselves, by steadying their aim.

Welcoming but safe and secure

Not only does Maloney have the qualifications from a background in the military and law enforcement, he “initially ran a safety team at his own church in Minnesota.” Since then, “he’s trained over 6,000 people in houses of worship nationwide.” Faith based institutions have a particular set of needs.

You want it to be open and welcoming and so forth, and yet provide (the) safety and security needed.” Crazy people think twice about bringing an assault rifle into a church where most of the congregation is packing serious heat.

So those of us who do carry firearms, we do so on a concealed basis. We have the protection we need, and yet we’re not ostentatious about it.” The idea isn’t to carry weapons for a purpose of intimidation.

Those with faith in self-preservation are arming themselves heavily before heading off to church. They’re also signing up for “warrior training” in record numbers.

Attendees of Moloney’s training have faith that they can respond properly to all sorts of threats. “The program offers a manual on safety drills for churches and helps build out what many call ‘safety ministries‘ – a combination of armed and unarmed volunteers ready to respond to emergencies, be it a medical case requiring CPR or a shooter in the building.

It’s amazing how faith can be used effectively to manage and de-escalate “disruptive situations” from bomb threats to an active shooter.
