The search was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations, which is part of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
A person familiar with the probe told Reuters it relates to alleged immigration fraud, including paperwork filled out by Omar’s late father when she was a child.
The department released no further details.
Speaking to reporters before leaving for a rally in Ohio, President Trump said officials were looking at Omar “very carefully” and called her “totally crooked” and a “complainer.”
Omar called the search an “attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement.”
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, a Democrat, said Trump was “abusing his power to go after political opponents weeks before an election.”
The search came a little more than three weeks before the Nov. 3 midterms, in which Omar is seeking reelection.
The Justice Department has historically avoided taking investigative steps against political candidates within about 60 days of an election.
