“Well, we’re looking at it,” Trump told reporters on his way to Ohio, according to CBS News. “We’re not happy.”

The remarks follow an allegation by businessman Eric Deters that Guilfoyle asked him to wire $100,000 to pay her American Express bill in exchange for her help with the Trump administration, ahead of her Senate confirmation hearing.

Deters gave CBS News screenshots of their texts, including one in which she appeared to ask him to wire money. He said he never sent it.

Sources familiar with the matter told CBS News that White House officials were told the messages were authentic.

Some Trump aides expressed displeasure about Guilfoyle’s actions, they said. Guilfoyle’s lawyer disputed their authenticity to The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the texts.

Guilfoyle, the former fiancée of Donald Trump Jr., was confirmed in September 2025 after a July hearing.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio declined to comment on the allegation during his visit to Greece last week, telling reporters the story had posted only hours earlier.
