The jockeying is already starting in the House in an effort to put together a task force to look into the assassination attempt against Donald Trump.
GOP House members want Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) blocked from being put on the committee.
They are citing Thompson’s previous legislation aimed at stripping Trump of Secret Service protection.
We Don’t Want You
If you recall, Thompson presented legislation that would have stripped any convicted felon who was sentenced to jail time of Secret Service protection.
Thompson was clearly targeting Trump, but the irony of this is that it would also impact Hunter Biden.
Because of that legislation, the Freedom Caucus issued a statement to have him blocked from the committee.
It read, “His actions should invalidate Rep. Thompson from serving on the task force to investigate the attempted assassination of President Trump.
“Americans cannot trust that he will be an unbiased arbiter of the facts in the effort to get to the bottom of the greatest failure of the Secret Service in more than three decades.”
Thompson responded as we would expect, “In any case, I will continue to serve as top Democrat on the Homeland Security Committee because I was selected by my Democratic colleagues, not the Freedom Caucus.”
The task force is a bipartisan effort announced by Speaker Johnson (R-LA) and Minority Leader Jeffries (D-N.Y.).
Sadly, we need Democrats on this committee or the media will never take the report seriously.
I just hope the Democrats that Jeffries puts on the committee are interested in the truth and don’t have an agenda going in like they did with the January 6 Select Committee, of which Thompson was a co-chair.
