South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has just put the progressive world on its ear.
Noem signed a transgender competition bill into law this week.
The new legislation will not permit transgender athletes to compete in women’s sports in South Dakota, and the left is already freaking out.
About Fairness
Few of us would argue that any man competing in the majority of women’s sports would not be a significant advantage.
Lia Thomas from the University of Pennsylvania is proving that to be true.
Yes, there are some sports where being male or female does not matter.
However, swimming is a power sport, and Thomas dominates women’s sports while only being a middling athlete in men’s competition.
Thomas has shattered women’s records in the pool that would not have even medaled in men’s events.
Noem is hoping to level that playing field, at least in her state.
After signing the legislation, she stated, “This bill’s about fairness.
“It’s about allowing biological females in their sex to compete fairly in a level playing field that gives them opportunities for success.”
Transgender advocates are taking this as an attack against transgenders rather than the protection for the integrity of women’s sports.
Sam Ames, the director of advocacy at The Trevor Project, stated, “At a time when young people are facing an unprecedented need for support, it is devastating to see politicians instead invent new ways to exclude them.”
The solution is a simple one… create a new classification of sports for transgenders.
Imagine how dangerous this could get in a contact sport.
For instance, what if a D1 linebacker decides he wants to transition, then decides to play women’s field hockey or lacrosse… these are contact sports where that individual would destroy women on the field of play.
We can also look at sports with even more contact, such as hockey. Can anyone imagine a transgender hockey player competing on the ice with women?
Is that where we really want to go in women’s sports?
If they allow this to continue, someone will get hurt, seriously hurt, then they will really have a problem on their hands.
