A big sign came that Russia and Ukraine may be softening their postures.
A big grain deal was signed by the two countries today.
The deal will ensure that grain continues to flow, but it may also signal that both sides are finally willing to sit down seriously to discuss a peace agreement.
Global Pressure
Ukraine’s conflict has had rather deep repercussions on the food chain supply.
The most notable being grains.
With costs for bread and other grain-based products soaring, this deal should help alleviate some of that financial pain.
It will likely take a hot minute before we feel that relief, but it should be coming.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated, “Today, there is a beacon on the Black Sea. A beacon of hope, a beacon of possibility, a beacon of relief in a world that needs it more than ever.
“The question has not been what is good for one side or the other.
“The focus has been on what matters most for the people of our world.
“And let there be no doubt – this is an agreement for the world.”
Transport ships will now be able to travel in the Black Sea without threat, which is a sign that tensions will be eased in the area, hopefully.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan added, “We have been seeing from the very beginning that there will be no winner in this war.
“Not only the parties, but the whole world will suffer.”
Let’s hope both sides can take the next step and work on a peace deal so the American people can stop picking up the tab on this senseless war.
