Earlier this morning, there was a massive explosion inside the Hotel Saratoga in Havana, Cuba.
Virtually the entire front of the hotel was blown off in the explosion.
So far, rescue workers have found 18 bodies, but there are sure to be more once the rubble is completely cleared.
Not Terrorist Activity
The only good news, if you would consider this to be good news, is that authorities have already stated they do not suspect this is foul play.
The Cuban Presidential Office stated, “Everything indicates that the explosion was caused by an accident.”
Authorities believe there was a gas leak that caused the explosion.
Among the 18 fatalities were a small child and a pregnant woman.
Another 64 people were sent to the hospital, which included 14 minors.
Here is a local report not long after the blast, so the death total reported here is far less than what we know now…
The Hotel Saratoga was constructed in the late 1800s and quickly became a mainstay in Havana.
It is considered one of the premier tourist hotels in Cuba, so this will be a staggering blow to the tourist trade in Cuba.
