Friday morning, a 13-year-old boy was shot and killed by the San Antonio police.
This is hardly a case that is “simple,” though.
There will more than likely be outrage over the boy’s death, but it appears as though the police had little choice at the time.
Parents?
As I get into this, just keep asking yourself one question… where were the parents?
The incident that led to the shooting took place at 1:30 a.m. on Friday.
Naturally, you are probably wondering what a 13-year-old boy was doing on the street at that hour, and you would be right to ask that.
The answer is that he was driving a stolen car… at 13, at 1:30 a.m.
The boy was shot because when he saw police, he decided to throw the car in reverse and T-bone a marked police vehicle.
When he attacked the police, an officer fired a single shot, hitting the boy in the abdomen.
There were two additional passengers in the stolen vehicle, both uninjured, and it remains unclear if they will be charged with any crimes.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave, and the San Antonio police have not yet released his name.
I know people will come after the police on this, but I have to wonder why they are not asking a single question about this kid’s parents.
If anyone should be charged, it should be them.
