For almost three years, Donald Trump has been trying to keep his financial records from the House Oversight Committee.

That fight took a major turn against Trump this week when an Appeals Court ruled the House can have the records, albeit with a limited scope.

At this point, the former president is almost out of options, so Democrats may finally get what they have been after for years.

Give Them Up

Trump has always maintained that he has done nothing wrong.

This fight is about principle more than anything else.

His detractors say if you have nothing to hide, just give them the records and close this chapter.

This latest loss puts Trump in a rather curious position.

If he continues this fight, it could drag out into the next election cycle.

Voters may be hesitant to back a candidate that could be derailed at any moment over legal problems.

Even if Trump did nothing wrong, we know if they find anything they can blow out of proportion, they will use it against Trump to block him from running.

The clock is ticking for Trump and his only other hope is to get this extended another six months and hope that Republicans take over the House.

If that happens, this investigation goes away, but that could also create a problem.

Dems can use that against all Republicans for the 2024 cycle implying corruption and a coverup.

Trump has backed himself into a corner on this one and the only reasonable solution may be to back out of the 2024 election and hand the keys over to someone like Ron DeSantis.

I wish I had an idea of what his play will be, but other than stepping back, any move he makes could backfire immensely on the conservative movement to take back Congress and the White House.
