The new panel headed by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy promises a common sense “revolution.” Sense, it seems, is never as common as it should be. Especially when it comes to the efficiency of government. The extra-planetary tech mogul was on hand at Mar-a-Lago Thursday for the annual “America First Policy Institute Gala.” This year, they have a YUUUGGGEEE amount of celebrating to do.

Government efficiency panel

A panel to audit and eliminate bureaucratic waste is long overdue. Every government, no matter how large or small, is inherently prone to waste. Taxpayer money swirls down the tubes.

At the same time, rules, regulations and red tape snarl all activity to a standstill. The effect is worse than not having that particular program at all. Donald Trump has decided to tackle that issue head on.

Elon Musk didn’t become the world’s richest billionaire by throwing money away or lighting it on fire. Donald Trump teamed him up with rabble-rousing MAGA conservative Vivek Ramaswamy to lead a brand new government efficiency panel.

Speaking about his appointment, Musk excited the crowd assembled at Mar-a-Lago proclaiming the role he’s undertaking “isn’t just about business, but a ‘revolution‘ for America.

They’re calling the panel the “Department of Government Efficiency” even though it may not become an actual government “department.” That’s a “technical term” and requires Congressional approval.

All Musk really wanted is the “DOGE” acronym. He’s a heavy promoter of Dogecoin. Trump can throw him that bone. Nobody will care what it’s called once they see the results it produces.

Sense, it seems, is never as common as it should be.

We need common sense

As President Trump said, what we need is common sense,” Musk declared. “This won’t be business as usual. This is going to be a revolution.” It shouldn’t be hard to find ways of trimming “trillions of dollars in ‘waste and fraud‘ within the federal government.

Musk promises his panel will “drive out” the abuse ballooning our annual spending to a whopping $6.5 trillion dollars.

Donald Trump agrees completely. Musk and Ramaswamy, the president explains, “will work together to liberate our economy, and make the U.S. government accountable to ‘WE THE PEOPLE.

The panel will help “dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure federal agencies.” It’s all about disrupting the “kingdom building.

Whenever government identifies an issue, it establishes a “committee” to study it. That committee adds staff to investigate the issue, doubling or tripling the budget demands. Once the investigation turns up something more to study, they get upgraded to a bigger level of bureaucracy, with a bigger staff and a bigger budget. The leader of the group keeps getting promotions and raises.

The whole thing soon swells up to un-managable proportions with thousands of people working furiously on a project. Long after they forgot all about what the original project was. By the time anyone gets around to noticing they’re the committee on buggy whip safety standards, that was founded in 1802, they’re a billion dollar line item. Musk’s panel will be looking for ones like that and there are more than enough to be found.
