Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the largest conscription Russia has seen since WWII.
Basically, any man that could hold a weapon was expected to report.
The American embassy is concerned that Americans with dual citizenship will get caught in the net.

With all of the tensions between Russia and the United States right now, it would not be surprising to see Putin blatantly disregard their status.
So, the embassy recommends that all dual citizens leave the country while they can.
The warning was eerily reminiscent of Afghanistan.
People were warned that there would only be limited help, if any, to get out of the country.
However, this order may negatively impact the already stressed relationship between the US and Russia.
Russian expert Rebekah Koffler stated, “Moscow and Washington don’t speak the same language, literally and figuratively, having diametrically opposing worldviews and security agendas that placed them on a geopolitical collision course.
“This is a very complex and highly risky diplomatic-dance of ‘strategic messaging’ and ‘strategic ambiguity’ because of the possibility of misinterpretation.”
