Joe Biden has settled on his Supreme Court nominee.
The shocker here was that it was not Michelle Childs.
Childs had been lauded by Rep. Clyburn (D-S.C.) and was believed to be the leading nominee as well as already having Republican support.
Perhaps that is why most prognosticators today have egg on their face, with Biden putting forward what many believed would be a longshot nominee.
The Pick Is In
Ketanji Brown Jackson has been chosen as Biden’s nominee.
She was among the more high-profile names, having only recently been nominated to take Garland’s position on the DC circuit after he was elevated to AG.
Jackson has also clerked for Justice Breyer, the seat she will be filling.
While she managed to get confirmed for her appeals court seat with little trouble, that will not be the case in elevating her to the Supreme Court.
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who voted for her confirmation on the appeals court, has already come forward saying her appointment is a major win for the far left of the Democrat Party.
Since moving to the appeals court, her record is not exactly exemplary, already having multiple decisions reversed on appeal to higher courts.
She has become a favorite of the far-left group Demand Justice.
She has also gained favor for her anti-Trump rulings.
For instance, when McGahn was trying to block his testimony, she ruled against him, writing, “Stated simply, the primary takeaway from the past 250 years of recorded American history is that Presidents are not kings.
“This means that they do not have subjects, bound by loyalty or blood, whose destiny they are entitled to control. Rather, in this land of liberty, it is indisputable that employees of the White House work for the People of the United States, and that they take an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
Rulings such as that have conservative groups ready to dig in.
For instance, Carrie Severino, the president of the conservative Judicial Crisis Network, stated, “With the intended nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson, Joe Biden has made it clear that his top priority is paying back the left-wing dark money network that spent over one billion dollars to help elect him and Senate Democrats.
“Before he was elected, Biden campaigned on the promise of unity and moderation.
“But since taking office, he has continued to deliver radical extremism.
“With the nomination of Jackson today, Biden continues to placate his liberal dark money friends.”
Opinions such as that are exactly why she will more than likely receive very little support from the right during the nomination process.
She has evolved into a judge that uses ideology over the rule of law and our Constitution, and that is a dangerous person to have sitting on the Supreme Court bench.
