On February 26, a Lincoln University student was stabbed to death.
Jawine Evans was reportedly stabbed in the neck at a dormitory on campus.
Authorities have arrested Nydira Smith on charges related to Evans’ death.
Campus Violence
Over the last couple of years, we have seen an absurd amount of violence on college campuses.
Over the last year or so, HBCUs have been a large part of that.
We have seen multiple bomb threats, shootings, and stabbings on campuses.
While some of this violence is spur of the moment when emotions run high, that does not appear to be the case here.
Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan believes the attack was premeditated.
She stated, “We believe it was premeditated.
“She took an hour and a half to drive from her home in West Mount Airy out to Lincoln University with a knife to join in a fight with the intent to kill.”
When the incident took place, it rocked the local community and students at the school.
At the time of the attack, Lincoln University stated, “We are deeply saddened by the incident that occurred on campus last night.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.
“We take the safety of our students seriously and are working with local authorities as there is an ongoing investigation.
“We have no further comment at this time.”
