Democrats have abortion front and center right now.
Even though Joe Biden has targeted the Hyde Amendment in budgetary legislation, it is still going strong.
Mind you, this is a piece of legislation he has backed his entire career until 2019 when progressives pushed back on it and forced him to flip.
Now any chance Democrats had of overturning the Hyde Amendment has been killed, with 48 Republicans assuring Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) that any legislation that tries to repeal Hyde will not get a vote from any of them.
The Hyde Amendment
The Hyde Amendment was overwhelmingly passed in September 1976.
The law forbids federal money to pay for abortions except in the cases of the mother’s life being in danger, incest, and rape.
Joe Biden was an advocate for this his entire career, right up until progressives forced him to change his stance on it.
Now, Biden, who claims to be a devout Catholic, is fully supporting the killing of the unborn for any reason out of mere convenience and with no restrictions on how far into term abortions can take place, the exact opposite of church doctrine.
Schumer and Democrats figured they could sneak this into legislation while they still have control, but 48 Republicans penned a letter warning him that will never happen.
Out of the two Senators that did not sign the letter, Senators Murkowski (R-AK) and Collins (R-ME), Collins’ office has stated she still fully supports Hyde.
So, sorry, Chuckie, but you lose again.
