Another day, another Democrat being accused of doing something unethical.
This time it is Rep. Charlie Crist of Florida.
An ethics watchdog organization has accused Crist of abusing the proxy vote process House Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) put in place during the pandemic.
Abusing the Process
Proxy voting was put in place to ensure everyone could vote at the height of the pandemic.
However, even though most mandates and restrictions have been lifted, Pelosi continues to extend this ridiculous measure.
Republicans were against it from the start and remain so, to the point that House Minority McCarthy (R-CA) has stated that as soon as he gets the gavel, this will be immediately removed if Pelosi continues to extend the order.
This year alone, through April 7, Crist has used the proxy vote more than 100 times.
Every time it was used, his filling stated that he was “unable to physically attend proceedings in the House Chamber due to the ongoing public health emergency.”
Ironically, all the while, Crist has been running for governor in Florida, which is what the organization claims to be his real reason for using the proxy vote.
FACT executive director Kendra Arnold stated, “In this case, both public and on the record, evidence leave little room for doubt that Rep. Crist is taking advantage of a rule passed for a national health emergency in attempts to further his political career.
“The ethics rules function to maintain the integrity of government action, and the Office of Congressional Ethics is responsible for ensuring each Member fulfills the public trust inherent in the office and that they comply with the House’s ethical standards.
“Unfortunately, in this case, Rep. Crist appears to have fallen far short of this standard, therefore, we urge the Board to immediately investigate Rep. Crist for abusing the proxy vote.”
He is clearly guilty, but, as usual, we expect little to be done to him because that is simply the way our corrupt government operates these days.
