In Case You Missed It: The US House of Representatives has been struggling to decide on a new House Speaker for quite some time now following the ousting of Kevin McCarthy. And while many thought Rep. Jim Jordan had a good chance at securing the position, he has yet to win a majority vote from House members.
Following the House Republican Conference’s decision to pull back on Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH) as a potential Speaker of the House, another candidate has stepped forward. Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) is now putting his name into consideration for this prestigious role according to a spokesman for the Florida Republican.
The news was reported by Emily Brooks of The Hill and subsequently confirmed by additional outlets such as The Post Millennial and WINK. After three failed votes on the floor, Jordan’s nomination came to an end with the GOP conference voting 112-89 in a closed-door meeting Friday afternoon, October 20.
This was much lower than the 15 votes that were required to usher in former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).
I supported @Jim_Jordan for our next Speaker. Unfortunately my votes for him on the floor and in conference to remain Speaker designate was not enough.
I now support @ByronDonalds for the next Speaker of the House 🇺🇸

Congressman Cory Mills (R-FL) expressed his support for Donalds writing “I supported @Jim_Jordan for our next Speaker… I now support @ByronDonalds for the next Speaker of the House.” Independent journalist Nick Sortor also weighed in tweeting “Congressman @ByronDonalds, a man that has frequently been mentioned as a possible Trump VP, has CONFIRMED that he is now running for Speaker of the House Would you get behind Byron?”
There are several other names being considered since Jordan’s removal from consideration including Rep. Jodey Arrington (R-TX), and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN).

Believed to be favored by Wall Street financiers, Patrick McHenry is also being mentioned as a possibility due to his current role as Speaker Pro Tempore of the House according to The Daily Caller. It appears Donalds’ reputation continues growing nationwide after he emerged as an early key figure in elections when colleague Rep. Chip Roy nominated him in round four and five of voting for McCarthy’s successor.
As previously reported by Trending Politics News, Donalds made headlines again recently when he exposed corruption within Joe Biden’s family with particular attention focused on Hunter Biden during Congressional testimony where he read aloud text exchanges between them which showed how Hunter had taken advantage of their father’s position over many years while expecting others to “pay for everything” for their family without taking any responsibility himself.
