Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is stirring up a hornet’s nest in Congress.
McCarthy, who rumors say is a frontrunner for Trump’s Chief of Staff position, just will not let this little feud with Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) go.
During a recent appearance on CNN, McCarthy took a pretty nasty shot at Gaetz.
So Much for Unity
McCarthy was discussing why he was backing a primary challenger against Gaetz in the upcoming race.
He stated, “No, I just don‘t think Gaetz is a conservative.
“I mean, if you think about it, if there‘s anybody who should go to trial, I mean, Gaetz is one who should be convicted in a trial.”
When pressed on his reasoning, McCarthy dropped the bomb, stating, “Well, we all know the challenger.
“You can’t sleep with underage women and think you can get away with it.”
Gaetz has denied the allegations and has never been convicted on any charges, so McCarthy is just stoking the fire.
I get that McCarthy is pissed, but how is the GOP supposed to appear to be unified to draw in voters in November when McCarthy continues to spit fire at Gaetz.
Give it a break, Kevin. You dared the man to try to remove you, he called your bluff, and you lost because your own caucus could not stand you.
Take the loss and move on because Gaetz is Trump’s boy, and it could cost you a White House position if you don’t bury the hatchet.
