A Michigan State legend and former NBA player, Adreian Payne, was shot dead on Monday.

According to local reports, Payne was shot dead around 1:30 a.m.

The shooting took place in Econ Landing, a townhome community.

The Shooting

According to local reports, Payne was allegedly shot by 29-year-old Lawrence Dority.

After the shooting, Dority reportedly remained on the scene and cooperated with the police.

He has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

Payne made Second-Team All Big Ten during his junior and senior seasons during his Michigan State career.

His teams won the Big Ten tournament in 2012 and 2014.

Payne was drafted 15th overall in the 2014 draft by the Atlanta Hawks.

He quickly turned into a journeyman, playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves and Orlando Magic during his four years in the league.

After his stint in the NBA, Payne played ball overseas with China, Greece, and Lithuania.

Joel Glass, a spokesperson for the Orlando Magic stated, “Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family during this difficult time.”
