Actress Chanel Maya Banks may or may not be missing. Her family says they’re convinced that the woman found by police in Texas is an impostor. That individual, who has access to Banks’ Instagram and YouTube accounts, insists she’s really herself. Her family simply doesn’t like the fact she’s run away to join a cult. Either way, the gossip girl has-been’s name is getting a whole bunch of free publicity.

Actress or impostor

Somebody isn’t telling the truth about a missing actress but it’s not totally clear which side. That’s not surprising when you consider that “gossip” means the spread of information. True or false doesn’t matter as long as it’s juicy.

The “Gossip Girl” regular went missing two weeks ago. Police report they found her and she’s unharmed. Her family isn’t believing them.

The LAPD is beginning to feel like they may have been used as part of a publicity stunt. The alleged actress gave police enough of a corroborating story to justify that the family had a right to file a missing person report.

She admits she disappeared suddenly. That’s where things start to go in two different directions. The family continues to insist that Banks has been replaced by a body-snatching “pod-people” impostor.

Money could be a factor in the dispute. If Banks really did run off “to be baptized by Pastor Robert Clancey,” any proceeds the actress has set aside could turn into a “donation” to his church.

While not quite classified as a cult leader, Clancy is known for preaching loudly about the “end times.” Her family probably had their eyes on her pile for years. LAPD spent two weeks tracking the 36-year-old to Texas and announced her discovery on November 11.

It’s fake news

Banks’ cousin, Danielle-Tori Singh, has been shouting from the rooftops that the LAPD is spreading “fake news.” Whoever they found in Texas is pretending to be the famous actress.

She and her family “will continue distributing ‘Missing Persons‘ fliers.” The alleged impostor counters back that her cousin wouldn’t recognize her anyway, since they haven’t talked in “over 15 years.

On Instagram, Singh has been racking up views with her posts. “I have the still from Texas PD body cam footage that was shown to us on Monday Nov 11 at the Pacific Police Station in LA.” Obviously, it wasn’t a good likeness.

This is the woman they’re telling us is Chanel. We have told them this is not Chanel. They didn’t listen to us and closed the case.” They listened to the actress because it means less work. Questioning her authenticity isn’t in their budget.

Her “mother and cousin” jointly reported Ms. Banks missing “after police conducted a welfare check” at her apartment in Playa Vista, California. Cops found her husband, belongings and dog all at the apartment but “nothing pointing them to where she may have gone.

After they did heavy detective work and tracked her to Texas, the alleged actress announced publicly “she was never missing.” She left voluntarily to “escape my cage.” Whether she’s been drugged with something is a totally different story but she insists that she’s fine. “They say once you’re free in Christ Jesus, you’re free indeed, so I told my husband six days ago I was going to get baptized by one of my favorite pastors Pastor Robert Clancy.” Her family, on the other hand, she accused “of sexual abuse and manipulation,” without going into details.
