Shop NowNoem confirmed the move herself in a social media post on Friday, saying her previous role as special envoy to the Shield of the Americas “was always a six-month appointment.”
That envoy post expired last month, ahead of the United Nations General Assembly. But with all of her loyalty to Trump, it was almost a given that Trump would find a home for her, if for nothing else, to keep her controlled so that she is not in the media spouting off at the mouth.
The new position is not a return to the Cabinet. President Donald Trump replaced Noem at the Department of Homeland Security in March, naming Markwayne Mullin to lead the agency.
The State Department said Thursday that Noem remains involved in the administration’s work coordinating security cooperation across the Western Hemisphere.
The Shield of the Americas is a coalition of the United States and several Caribbean and Latin American countries focused on economic cooperation, anti-cartel enforcement and related issues.
Just the News notes that Noem has kept a lower profile since leaving the Cabinet.
She has met with Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa, held talks with Ecuadorian and Colombian diplomats in Washington in September, and joined meetings with regional leaders at the U.N. General Assembly.
