A Mississippi grand jury has declined to indict anyone over the death of Nolan Wells, an 18-year-old whose body was found off Horn Island in July.

Shop NowWells travelled to the island, about 10 miles offshore, on July 4 with friends.
He was last seen there at 3 p.m. and did not return with his group.
His mother reported him missing that evening. His body was recovered on July 6.
The 23-member grand jury found no criminal wrongdoing, reporting “no credible evidence” that anyone who rode to or from the island that day engaged in criminal conduct.
It called the allegations against those on the boats “solely the result of public clamor and private malice.”
District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath said there is “absolutely no evidence to support the allegations that Nolan’s disappearance and death were racially motivated.”
An independent autopsy commissioned by the family could not establish a cause of death.
The grand jury concluded the condition and location of the body were “consistent with drowning.”
The family disputes that the case is closed. Attorney Ben Crump said: “We don’t know how Nolan died, and neither does the State of Mississippi. Mississippi must keep investigating, and if it will not pursue this to the end, the Department of Justice should.”
