Fox News host Jesse Watters delivered a blunt verdict on the Republican Party’s midterm losses on “The Five,” calling the results a beating and warning that rebuilding the party’s coalition will take time, The Daily Beast reported.

The remarks were commentary on the election results. The Daily Beast’s report describes no announcement by Watters about his own role or his show.
Watters argued that the coalition behind President Donald Trump had broken apart. “The coalition’s totally collapsed. I mean, you lost whites,” he said. “Whites! You can’t do that if you’re a Republican. Men. Hispanics, big time. And so it’s going to take a while to put the coalition back together.”
He said older homeowners were the exception. “The only people he really won are people over 65, and those are people who have a home,” Watters said of Trump.
The Daily Beast noted that voters 65 and older made up 36 percent of the electorate and split their House votes 50-50, according to the national voter poll conducted by SSRS for ABC, NBC and other outlets.
Watters linked losses among younger voters to cost of living. “If you’re going to make people who are young, struggling, living paycheck to paycheck, have to pay more for stuff and make it harder for them to climb the ladder, it’s not going to go well,” he said. He described the trade war and the Iran war as “noble goals,” but said they were “a five-year deal.”
On the Midwest, he pointed to farm costs. “China, in order to pressure Trump in the trade war, stopped buying crops from the farmers, and then you do the Hormuz Strait squeeze and fertilizer and diesel go up, so whoa, they moved blue,” he said.
He called Trump “a legend” but criticized the wealthy figures around him. “I also think a lot of people don’t like watching billionaires spend $70 million on a wedding or fly their wives on joyrides in outer space,” he said, a reference to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
He also said “the base was a little depressed” and that “the Epstein file release was kind of bungled.”
In a separate solo monologue, Watters said Democrats “have him right where they want him,” describing Trump as a lame duck facing “big majorities” with a base “not as loyal.”
