Governor Abbott was scheduled to speak at the big NRA convention in Houston this weekend.
Those plans have changed.
Instead, Abbott is headed back to Uvalde, TX, the site of the horrific mass shooting.
Can’t Go
Abbott was one of nearly a dozen scheduled speakers or performers that backed out of the convention.
Beto O’Rourke and some media were already making a fuss over Abbott’s quick stop-off on Tuesday on his way back from Uvalde to Austin.
Abbott had a prior fundraiser scheduled, so he stuck his head in to tell everyone thanks for coming, but he could not stay.
He then went back to Austin to coordinate with law enforcement.
That, however, is not how the visit was portrayed, so I can fully understand why he chose to skip the convention and just send a video address.
Among those that did not cancel were Donald Trump and Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), both of whom addressed the shooting.
