I have to be honest, I am not sure how much more scandal the FBI can handle right now.

Reports broke this week that former FBI Executive Assistant Director Michael Steinbeck had been dipping his beak where it did not belong during the Crossfire Hurricane investigation.

He received all kinds of goodies for meeting with journalists while working on the case.

Information for Sale

Over the last few years, the FBI has had more than its fair share of scandals.

Steinbeck was apparently taking his lead from former FBI bosses James Comey and Andrew McCabe, leaking information to the media.

While McCabe and Comey appear to have been doing it out of hatred for Trump, Steinbeck was cashing in.

In addition to free cocktails and dinners, he also received tickets to the annual Washington Correspondents’ Association Dinner and at least one other black-tie affair.

The report, which the Washington Free Beacon obtained via an FOIA request, stated, “The OIG investigation substantiated the allegation that Steinbach had numerous unauthorized contacts with the media from 2014 to 2016.

“Evidence gathered from FBI records revealed Steinbach had hundreds of contacts with the media for several years as Assistant Director for the Counter Terrorism Division starting in June 2014 and then after his promotion to EAD of NSB in February 2016.”

Steinbeck retired in 2017, so he was not compelled to cooperate with the IG, and we probably should not expect anything to actually happen to him in terms of being prosecuted.

If there is one thing this DOJ has proven, it is that it will not go after its own, regardless of how dirty they were.
