Donald Trump and his supporters are surely going to have a bit of a laugh at this one.

Two months ago, Ron DeSantis appointed a board to oversee Disney.

Well, that board is now powerless, at least for the time being, due to a last-minute move made that invoked a law from the 1600s.

Will It Stand

I am not sure this will stand, but it will provide a chuckle for DeSantis’ critics.

When DeSantis revoked all of Disney’s special privileges, it also changed what was called the Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID) to the Central Florida Tourism Oversight Board (CFTOB).

For those of you unfamiliar with how Disney operated, the RCID was created to allow Disney to, for the use of a better term, regulate itself, basically creating its own government within this little pocket of Florida.

What DeSantis was unaware of, even though there were public hearings held on the matter, was that the RCID, only hours before the CFTOB was created, transferred all of its power to Disney using a King clause from 1692.

The declaration stated, “[This] Declaration shall continue in effect until 21 years after the death of the last survivor of the descendants of King Charles III, King of England, living as of the date of this declaration.

“So, as long as one of those grandchildren makes it 80, this clause would be there for 100 years.”

The question, of course, is whether it will stand considering the nature of the law and, well, we are no longer under the crown.

DeSantis’ office does not think so.

His spokesperson stated, “The Executive Office of the Governor is aware of Disney’s last-ditch efforts to execute contracts just before ratifying the new law that transfers rights and authorities from the former Reedy Creek Improvement District to Disney.

“An initial review suggests these agreements may have significant legal infirmities that would render the contracts void as a matter of law.

“We are pleased the new Governor-appointed board retained multiple financial and legal firms to conduct audits and investigate Disney’s past behavior.”

DeSantis better hope he is right because if not, Trump is going to have a feast with this and use it against him during the primary race.
