After an eight-week trial, the federal jury declared New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez guilty. Gold Bar Bob is looking at “decades” in prison after being convicted on 18 separate bribery and corruption charges. His wife, Nadine, also faces similar charges related to the same scheme. The Democrat apparently peddled his influence as head of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee to Egypt, for fun and profit.

Menendez found guilty

Now that Democrat Senator Bob Menendez has been convicted, we can firmly report that those gold bars weighing 2.2 pounds each, that he had stashed in his closet, were bribes. We don’t have to call them alleged bribes any longer. It’s a proven fact.

The jury says “he accepted bribes, including gold bars and a Mercedes-Benz, in exchange for helping foreign governments.” That’s not real good for national security.

Once chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Menendez “now faces the prospect of decades in prison.” Unbelievably, the liberals are actually contemplating yanking his Democrat Party membership over his misdeeds. Even though he didn’t do anything any different than what Joe Biden allegedly did.

BBC notes that Bob now faces “possible expulsion from the Democratic party.” They haven’t decided on that for sure yet. They may need him for a donor if his legal fees didn’t eat up all that gold.

Day after day for eight weeks, Bob’s lawyers argued in court that they were simply “gifts,” not bribes.

The defense claimed that prosecutors didn’t properly prove that Menendez “took any specific action as a result of receiving them.” The jury didn’t buy it. They also didn’t believe that Nadine did it all on her own.

Toss Nadine under the bus

Nadine Arslanian Menendez faces her own set of charges in the same exact scheme. She talked the judge into a continuance on her part of the trial “so she could undergo breast cancer treatment.” Since she wasn’t around to make a big fuss about it, Bob’s lawyers tried to “shift blame” to Nadine.

They painted her “as a financially troubled individual” who hoped to “get cash and assets any way she could.” She nagged Bob day and night to get out there and hustle. She should have taken an investment course on off-shore shell companies. Gold may be cool and trendy but it’s way too easy to trace. Especially when you move it by the kilo.

A separate trial is going on which features businessmen Wael Hana and Fred Daibes. They’re charged with seeking out the senator. They told him they would get his wife off his back if he did a favor or two for the government of Egypt.

There were millions to be skimmed off a Qatari investment fund. Meanwhile, one of their associates, Jose Uribe, “pleaded guilty and testified against Mr. Menendez in the trial.” Prosecutors used Bob’s own emails to hang him.

During trial, prosecutors relied on expert testimony, emails and Mr. Menendez’s text messages to show that the senator accepted lavish rewards from foreign governments.” Each one of those gold bars is valued well over $100,000.

Conservatives are stunned but Democrats don’t seem to mind that Menendez “is currently running as an independent, hoping to keep his seat in November’s election.” He thinks he can serve his term from whatever cell they put him in. He’ll be in one for a while. The pundits say he’s looking at “decades” in prison.
