Kai Trump, the 19-year-old granddaughter of President Donald Trump, has undergone wrist surgery and indicated she could be sidelined for a “few months” of her freshman season on the University of Miami women’s golf team, Bleacher Report reported.

Trump disclosed the procedure in an Instagram post on Wednesday. She said it addressed an injury she suffered during her first tournament of the collegiate season, in September.

“While I had hoped to avoid surgery, after talks with my family, coaches, and athletic training staff I know I made the best decision for my long-term health and my future in the game I love,” she wrote.

“It’s certainly not how I envisioned the next few months, but sometimes the journey takes an unexpected turn, and I’m choosing to embrace this one with patience and a whole lot of determination.”

The operation follows an earlier one. Last January, Trump announced she had undergone “left wrist surgery to address injuries to the stabilizing tissues of my ECU tendon and damage to my triangular fibrocartilage complex,” a procedure she said was meant to let her play golf pain-free.

Nine months later, she made her debut for the Hurricanes at the 2026 Golfweek Fall Classic at Pawleys Island, South Carolina, where she tied for 102nd place out of 120 competitors.

In a social media post after that event, reported by Golfweek’s Kinsley Crowley, Trump said she “kind of had a re-injury” to the wrist. She described what happened: “I hit the ground next to the cart path. Let’s just say there must have been some cart path underneath that ground because it was very hard.”

She said it felt as though she had torn it again on the 10th hole, but that scans showed only “a little sliver on my TFCC,” which she had hoped to treat without surgery.

Trump went on to play a second collegiate event earlier this month, finishing 13th out of 14 competitors at the Golfweek Put Me In Coach Invitational in Muncie, Indiana.

She committed to Miami in August 2024 and made her LPGA debut in 2025. She has a projected $1.2 million name, image, and likeness valuation, according to On3.

Bleacher Report’s account carries no comment from President Trump on the surgery. The only family reference in the coverage is Kai’s own statement that she decided after talks with her family, coaches, and athletic training staff, and her view that it was the best decision for her long-term health and her future in the game.
