A Florida woman learned, in an attention getting way, that her Porsche SUV has a whole lot of power in low gear. She apparently hit the gas at the wrong time. She blasted right through the wall of a parking garage, three floors up. As she launched out into space, her rear wheels were barely in contact with the building when the front got caught in a tree. It was a tricky rescue but she’s safe. She can expect a big bill from the ambulance company but considering what she drives, should be able to afford it.

Porsche in a tree

Firemen are used to rescuing kittens from trees but a Porsche stuck in one was new for Coral Gables first responders. Getting a woman out before it fell was the big challenge. The terrifying mishap “unfolded Monday, when the unidentified driver got behind the wheel on the third level of the parking structure on San Remo Avenue in Coral Gables.

New York Post is reporting she “accidentally stepped on the gas.

They got that from a report by KNOP-TV News which noted “it looked like the lady pressed the accelerator by mistake and went through the wall.” That statement was attributed to Coral Gables Fire Rescue Chief Xavier Jones.

It took “almost 30 minutes” to extract the driver from her Porsche. They had to be extremely cautious because the car was perched precariously and could dislodge at any time.

Chief Jones notes that it’s clear her number wasn’t up. “She got very lucky that when the car went through the wall, it landed in a tree.

Only because it was a Porsche, the manufacturer would like to claim but they had nothing to do with it. Her insurance company is really happy that tree was there, too.

It was a tricky rescue but a Florida woman is safe. So’s her Porsche.

A car peeling out

Rescue workers had to stabilize things before they could begin to extract the driver. Working from above and below the Porsche, they used ropes and chains to secure the vehicle long enough to get the woman out.

Once they had her lowered safely to the ground, they sent her off by ambulance to the local hospital.

Katiana Polanco knew something wasn’t right as soon as she heard the screeching tires. She works nearby in a doctor’s office. The commotion gave her something to talk about for days.

Apparently, the Porsche SUV model delivers considerable torque in first gear on demand. While that’s great for times you need it, the feature was almost fatal when used under Monday’s particular circumstances.

Polanco “basically heard a car peeling out.” Burning rubber. “Like they hit the gas by accident or trying to go really fast.” That noise didn’t continue for long. “I heard a really hard crash, so I thought it was a car crash between two cars.

They say an “experienced” Porsche driver is one who has wrecked one. Ms. Doe can now consider herself an experienced driver and hopefully she learned to pay more attention to what she’s doing behind the wheel. She should now appreciate that Porsches are engineered for more than just looking flashy.
